i guess i just wanted to make a spin-off of the kit design thread :silence:

West Brom have changed theirs, vile are reported to be looking to change theirs, is it time we had a change of logo?

TBH i actually really like the current logo...when it's the PROPER detailed version

Posted Image

and not the cheap looking versions like

Posted Image

but when i see the badge, i just see a globe and a ball, it doesnt really say anything about Birmingham. there's nothing symbolic on it apart from "Birmingham City"

teams like Barcelona have symbolic logos

theirs has the colours of Catalonia featured

Posted Image

PSG

there's has the Eiffel Tower and the royal symbol for the former town of St. Germain

Posted Image

and you can see where Manchester's coat of arms feature in their 2 football clubs' logos

Posted Image

Man City

Posted Image

Man Ure (the ship part)

i got to thinking, i know the Birmingham Coat of Arms can only be used by the City Council nowadays, but why not at least have a badge that uses features from it?

Birmingham Coat of Arms

Quote:

Below is a full-colour reproduction of the City of Birmingham's Coat of Arms. This is the City Council's official emblem. Although it was granted on 10 May 1977, it still refers to the city's medieval origins, besides expressing Birmingham's notable role as a city of European status, both industrially and culturally. These Arms were granted to the City Council. No other body can use them. Nor can the City Council authorise their use for other than its own purposes.

i just quickly came up with....

and

Posted Image

i'm clearly no professional lol, but i included the coat of arms, the Rangers style BCFC logo, a bull (commonly seen as a symbol of Birmingham) and the club name and establishment date.

going back to the roots....

Posted Image

Posted Image

i bet i've gone and peed off everyone with a globe and ball tattoo haven't i?

but why not at at least discuss it? we've used the coat of arms before (us being the only team in Birmingham wanting to associate themselves with the City) :banner:

whatever it is, at least it means more than chAV's Peugeot rip-off

No, let's stick to the badge we've got. It is unique in design and I think it is far superior to other badges.

I may be biased but I honestly think that our badge is the best football badge in the world.

I mean, it's a football and the world with Birmingham City written on it.

To me, it does not get much better than that.

Quite agree. To have the City's coat of arms, is not exactly original is it? How many other clubs have this. Our badge is instantly recognizable and I like it. Football fans like tradition. Blues haven't got much. They haven't even got a kit colour combination. I like to think that this badge is our little bit of tradition.

I don't want a boring 'shield type' badge. With things on that have nothing to do with the Blues.

The globe and ball is a thing of beauty. The council can have some small part if they build the new stadium. The only part I wouldn't mind is the bottom portion with "Forward" written on it.

Plus, bored schoolchildren like the ball and globe because it is easy to draw in the back of their maths book when they can't be bothered. A Shield with infinite detail would be difficult to draw, and would lose the club any number of potential new fans, who choose the viler because any fool can draw a lion with some stripes.

I like the badge Now but I remember complaining to my Dad about it. My first Penguin strip had BCFC with the letters overlaying each other and I thought the Globe and Football looked to modern and tacky ;) The badge must be close to its 35th birthday I would think. :banner:

Introduced in 1975/76 season, after a competition for a new badge.
31 years old like now.

I reckon the globe and the football IS THE BEST logo in any sport, club in the world - second to none. To me, it is Birmingham City. I challenge anyone to show me a better football badge. The only change I'd make to it, is when we win the Champions League, as you get a nice gold star, a la Juventus:

Posted Image

I'd put the gold star (not too big, mind) on the football, with the ribbon crossing over it. Not too good with these image editor's, so no illustration I'm afraid.

---------Edited-------

Don't ask me where I'd put the second star when we retain the cup :LMAO:

apparently Vile are so desperate to include the star on their pink shirts that they're trying to do what Milan and Man City do and use it as part of the logo

would be all the funnier if they got relegated next season :D

I like the current format but I wouldn't mind a redesign. Sticking with the same sort of format.

Like so...
